310 gallons of gravy for dippin’

We all have beloved Thanksgiving traditions. I, for instance, wander into AT&T Stadium and help myself to some dinner.

The next time yer grandma holds her hand to her forehead and says she’s getting the vapors from having to slave over a hot stove to make Thanksgiving for her ingrate offspring, tell her at least she doesn’t have to cook for 90,000 people [unless she was particularly fertile, of course].

There is no off-season for deliciousness, so the crew at Legends has been working since the summer to get ready for today’s game.

“Wait a minute!” I really did cry out after consulting last year’s blog showing a miniscule 10,900 pounds of mac ‘n’ cheese. “You just said 13,515 pounds of turkey and 16,320 pounds of Cowboys Mac ‘n’ Cheese! Are you saying there’s even more mac ‘n’ cheese this time?!”

Legends’ food and beverage director explained the fan base demanded more mac ‘n’ cheese, so they’re now selling it at more concessions stands and they’ve incorporated it into more dishes.

They mention a couple new dishes in that clip:

The Thanksgiving Sandwich

“Famous Cowboys Mac n Cheese, cranberry sauce, house pecan-and-hickory smoked turkey, savory herb dressing, green beans and turkey gravy on a large brioche bun.”

The Thanksgiving Roll

“Savory herb dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and house pecan-and-hickory smoked turkey bundled and fried in a crispy delicious egg roll wrap. Served with turkey gravy for dipping.”

“Oh, I’ve got to try these items in the interest of journalism,” I explained.

Out they came with trays of the new sandwiches, complete with the turkey gravy for dippin’.

These new dishes aren’t in lieu of the Thanksgiving Hand Pie and Bowl from last year. They are in addition to them. Heather Fuller, the concessions chef, and George Wasai, the director of food and beverage, both agree they want to give everyone options so they can have the best doggone Thanksgiving ever.

So it’s not as through the concessions stands are ignoring dessert. They’ve got 970 pounds of pumpkin and 425 pounds of pecans for pie. Here’s this year’s rundown. I suggest printing out a wallet-sized card so you’ll be ready to compare them to next year’s figures in a pinch:

  • 16,320 pounds of famous Cowboys Mac n Cheese
  • 5,410 pounds of Ham
  • 212 Gallons of heavy whipping cream for dessert toppings
