My Dearest LuLuBell,
Lo, it has been so long our last correspondence. And I just now realized you actually made your debut in my blog seven years ago. At the risk of editorializing, I dare say I was a visionary in trying to prevent constant surveillance.
If there’s anything we’ve learned from the Television Review Page [spoilers: There isn’t.], it’s that I have my finger on the pulse of pop culture.
This weekend, I started getting cabin fever, so I cleaned the house. And also watched Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Sure, it was released more than 30 years ago, and we’re coming up on the hottest part of the year and couldn’t be less focused on the holidays, but it came on TV. How could I not watch it?!
I spotted something new: When Michael McKean pulls Del and Neal over, his jacket has the outline of Wisconsin on the sleeve. Needless to say, I posted on Facebook immediately. Surely, cleaning the house could wait until this #Breaking story from the late 1980s was reported.
I also started googling. Turns out, the movie was originally about four hours long. Del and Neal had overshot Chicago and wound up in Wisconsin [source: the internet].
If the film had been made now, TSA would have been all over Neal for causing a scene at the car rental counter. But then also, they could have just googled for directions, not missed Chicago [really, though it’s easy to miss] and Old Man McKean wouldn’t have been involved.
Without being stuck inside, we all would have been cheated out of this analysis [and also cheated out of learning the jail from Planes, Trains and Automobiles is in the same town as the Punxsutawney from Groundhog Day], so let us stop kicking at the ground and questioning our lot in life and enjoy what this time indoors is helping us learn… about 30 year old movies.
I did resume cleaning the house, too. Eventually. There had been boxes sitting on the loveseat. Now, look how handsome it looks with a Cincinnati Reds 150th anniversary blanket to keep everyone warm.
It goes well with the Montreal Expos blanket on the sofa. And now, instead of guests having to rummage through boxes to find a place to sit, they are now greeted by boxes as soon as they walk into the house!
I’m sure I’ll remember to put those out the curb later this week.
In conclusion, more people are defying stay-at-home orders, so it may be good the governor is lifting regulations at the end of the week. I’m staying home but also blogging more.
I’m not sure which is worse, LuLuBell.
