North Texans ARE super nice

I was excited to return home from the rodeo last weekend in time to catch the end of the Bengals/Cowboys game. I was less excited to see the Bengals lose.

“How can I continue to gloat about the Bengals having been to the Super Bowl more recently than the Cowboys?!” I cried out toward the heavens.

I still found a way.

This week, I was dispatched to shove my microphone in the face of Cowboys fans to ask how they feel about defeating the defending AFC champions.

When I arrived in Arlington’s Entertainment District, I went to work, wandering up to the first group I saw wearing Cowboys gear. Naturally, the first people I met… were from New York.

Their position: Even though the Cowboys haven’t been to a Super Bowl this millennium, they still lead the league in gentlemanly club life.

I have a cousin in Connecticut who is a Cowboys fan. I’m not sure how that happened or the degree to which Roger Staubach [a Cincinnati native] was involved, but being from the Northeast, he’s a bit more in-your-face about it.

I bring this up because one of the gentlemen from New York explained people in Arlington treated Ohioans in a way you’d never see after a Giants’ game.

Those of us who live in Tarrant County treat each other right.

I continued wandering up to people and telling them I’m from Ohio even if they hadn’t asked [especially if they hadn’t asked].

Even those Cowboys fans were very much aware their last Super Bowl appearance was the previous millennium. But they feel energized by the win over Cincinnati, and we Ohioans aim to please.
