The other day, I received a text from an associate in public relations. He works for TxDOT and was wondering if I had gone back to work at WBAP.
He was asking if I had received his press release about the opening of a new highway in Azle.
I had received the release and was looking forward to attending the ribbon cutting. I parked in the wrong spot in the middle of the highway, though, and had to climb over one of those cement barriers. In my defense, we were supposed to park in the middle of the highway, just a half mile up the road.
I just wish, now, that I had shown up a few minutes late in some sort of hilarious Mad Max fashion and declared, “I got this. I’ll cut the ribbon.” Then blew fire at it.
But back to the confusion over which station I work at.
Our TxDOT spokesman was asking if I had gone back to WBAP. I told him I was still at KRLD and asked why he thought I might have bailed.
He texted a screen shot of WBAP’s website. Turns out, I’m still there.
At first, I was confused and said I didn’t care for my picture. I thought it was my picture for KRLD. For some reason, web staffs keep posting pictures of me looking at the camera while standing slightly off to the side. At KRLD, though, I look much more serious.
The WBAP shot looks like I’m saying, “Great to see you! You look amazing!”
The KRLD picture looks like a newsmaker is dodging questions just before I say, “Uh, just one more thing.”
At least I’m not wearing the same shirt.
There’s been something of an exodus from WBAP over the past couple of years, so some of my fellow castaways at KRLD started looking for themselves when I told them a PR person was texting me to say WBAP was having a hard time quittin’ me after all.
They googled themselves with “WBAP.” They copied the URL with their names and a dash in place of mine.
They had all been scrubbed clean from the site. I suspect me writing a blog about this will lead to the web folk at WBAP doing the same for me. Let’s just keep this between us, okay Scaiaholics?
But Val made a strong point. He encouraged me to demand a year’s pay for leaving me up there. Obviously, I’m still driving traffic to their site.
