This week, Radio Shack is auctioning off hundreds of things that are important to people who shop at Radio Shack. Listen, there were plenty of Tandy computers, and I’m pretty sure they were selling the monitor we had in the house were I grew up.
A lot of these were Radio Shack catalogs, and someone actually paid $60 for a suite of catalogs because he had to know how much a Tandy Computer cost in 1975 and he had to know right now.
Also for sale is a jersey from the Tour de France. That’s getting higher bids, but I just looked and have no idea who any of these people are. I’m sure Greg LeMond is in there somewhere.
I was more interested, though, in this painting of George W. Bush. That would really tie the room together.

It would look great next to Monkey Drinking a Martini [Van Gogh]. The Scaia house is filled with wonderful artwork.
I did place a bid on the president, but I was not willing to go any higher. When I saw the bids stacking up, I felt kind of bad for driving the price up for everyone.
Someone else just had to have that portrait of George W. Bush right now.
Still, though, $145 is a pretty good deal on a painting, especially one with a beveled frame.
Maybe I should have pulled the trigger after all. The president also could have paired well with a painting my sister-in-law fashioned a couple years ago.
I’ve been waiting for months to find just the right frame for this piece. Now that I think of it, I could have used the beveled frame. I’m not entirely sure what a bevel is, but if it’s good enough for a former leader of the free world, it’s good enough for Commodore Scaia.
Behold: The Scaia House Wall of Honor!
